Libya and Palestine have signed two memorandums of understanding to strengthen cooperation in healthcare and the search and identification of missing persons.

The agreements include Libya’s commitment to establishing a fully equipped field hospital in Gaza, providing urgent medical assistance to ease the suffering of the Palestinian people, and supporting their resilience amid ongoing challenges.

The signing ceremony took place at the Libyan Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Tripoli, attended by senior officials from both countries. Among them were the Director of General Protocols, the Director of Arab Affairs, and the Director of International Treaties, along with other representatives from both sides.

According to the ministry’s statement, the health cooperation agreement builds on a previous memorandum signed in July last year between Libya’s Ministry of Youth and the Palestinian Supreme Council for Youth and Sports.

The new cooperation annex includes the construction of a field hospital in Gaza, fully equipped with medical staff and advanced equipment, in collaboration with Libya’s Emergency Medicine and Support Center.

The second agreement focuses on the search and identification of missing persons, aiming to strengthen technical cooperation and exchange expertise between relevant institutions in both countries. The initiative seeks to improve mechanisms for locating and identifying missing individuals, a challenge affecting both Libya and Palestine.

Libya has long been a supporter of Palestinian rights, historically maintaining diplomatic ties and providing humanitarian assistance.

Over the years, Libya has delivered financial aid, medical supplies, and political backing to the Palestinian cause. Despite its own political instability, Libya has consistently demonstrated its commitment to regional solidarity and humanitarian efforts.

Libya itself has endured over a decade of turmoil following the 2011 uprising, leading to deep political divisions, security challenges, and economic difficulties. The country remains divided between rival administrations, but initiatives like the Gaza field hospital reflect Libya’s ongoing efforts to engage in regional humanitarian work.
