Libya’s High National Elections Commission (HNEC) announced that over 521,000 voters have registered to participate in the second phase of the country’s municipal elections, set to take place in 62 municipal councils.
According to an official statement issued by the Commission, a total of 521,987 citizens have registered so far. This figure includes 363,473 male voters and 158,514 female voters, reflecting a notable level of public engagement ahead of the local polls.
The HNEC urged eligible Libyans to register before the official deadline of Sunday, 13 April, highlighting the importance of civic participation in shaping local governance.
To facilitate the process, the Commission confirmed that voter registration offices will remain open on Saturday, 12 April, from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM, to receive last-minute registration requests.
This second phase of the municipal elections is part of Libya’s broader roadmap to decentralise governance and empower local councils amid the country’s continued political transition.
The HNEC has continued to stress the transparency and inclusivity of the electoral process, which it views as a key step toward strengthening democratic institutions across the country.
