The head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya, Hanna Tetteh, has stressed the need for sustained international coordination to support Libya’s political process and advance efforts toward national elections.

During a meeting held in Antalya, Tetteh met with Massad Boulos, a senior adviser to US President Donald Trump on Arab and African affairs, to discuss the latest developments in Libya’s political track. The talks focused on ways to strengthen international support and maintain momentum toward a comprehensive political solution.

Tetteh welcomed the recent signing of Annex No. 1 to the Unified Development Program agreement, describing it as a positive step toward improving financial discipline and reinforcing accountability in public spending. She emphasized that such progress should be built upon to ensure broader institutional reform and transparency.

The UN envoy underlined the importance of consistent, coordinated, and sustained international engagement to support Libya’s political roadmap. She noted that unified efforts by international partners are essential to overcoming political deadlock and ensuring the successful implementation of all phases of the process.

According to Tetteh, the ultimate goal remains the organization of national elections as soon as possible, in line with UN-led efforts to bring an end to Libya’s prolonged transitional period. She stressed that achieving this objective requires both internal consensus among Libyan actors and strong external backing.

For his part, Boulos reaffirmed the United States’ support for the UN mission and its leadership, expressing Washington’s commitment to continued coordination in the coming period. He emphasized the importance of aligning international efforts to help stabilize Libya and advance the political process.
