The United States has commended Libya’s participation in a major international military exercise, highlighting it as a sign of growing cooperation and stability efforts across the country.
Jeremy Berndt, the US Chargé d’Affaires in Libya, expressed appreciation to Libyan and international partners involved in the Flintlock 2026 exercise, held in the city of Sirte.
“Thank you to our Libyan and international partners for participating in AFRICOM’s Flintlock 2026 exercise in Sirte,” Berndt said in a statement. He described the exercise as a clear indication of ongoing momentum in Libyan-led efforts to promote unity and strengthen national stability.
The exercise, organised under the supervision of United States Africa Command, brings together military forces from multiple countries to enhance coordination, counter-terrorism capabilities, and regional security cooperation.
Berndt stressed that such joint activities reflect Libya’s commitment to building stronger security institutions and improving cooperation with international partners. He added that these efforts contribute to broader regional stability, particularly in North Africa and the Sahel.
“The United States remains committed to supporting our Libyan partners as they achieve further progress on this path,” he said.
Flintlock exercises are held regularly across Africa and are designed to strengthen partnerships, improve readiness, and support local forces in addressing security challenges, including terrorism and organised crime.
Libya’s participation comes amid ongoing efforts to unify military institutions and stabilise the country after years of political division. Analysts say increased international cooperation could play a key role in enhancing Libya’s security framework and rebuilding trust between institutions.
