Sebha International Airport officially reopened following the completion of extensive renovation and modernization works supervised by the National Development Agency, marking a major step in ongoing reconstruction efforts across southern Libya.

The reopening ceremony took place in Sebha during celebrations marking the 12th anniversary of Operation Dignity and was attended by senior officials, representatives of eastern Libyan authorities, members of the House of Representatives, municipal leaders, aviation officials, and community figures from the Fezzan region.

Airport operations resumed after a temporary suspension lasting nearly two weeks due to maintenance and infrastructure upgrades. The redevelopment project included improvements to the main runway, aircraft parking zones, operational facilities, and passenger services.

Officials involved in the project stated that the modernization works were carried out according to advanced technical standards aimed at improving aviation services and strengthening transportation links between southern Libya and other parts of the country.

Authorities described the reopening as part of broader efforts to rehabilitate critical infrastructure and revive public services in the south after years of conflict, neglect, and logistical challenges. The upgraded airport is expected to improve mobility, support economic activity, and facilitate travel for residents across the Fezzan region.

Ahmaid Houma, Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister in the parliament-appointed government, praised the project and described it as an important achievement for southern Libya. He stressed that improving transportation infrastructure remains essential for supporting development and enhancing public services.

According to officials, the reopening of the airport terminal will help improve passenger movement and strengthen Sebha’s role as a strategic gateway connecting southern Libya with other Libyan cities and international destinations.
