Zuwara Municipality has imposed a daily curfew from 11:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. until further notice, as part of precautionary measures aimed at strengthening security and protecting residents, including foreign nationals living in the city.
In a statement issued by the Committee for Registering and Regulating the Status of Foreigners, the municipality said the measure is temporary and designed to provide a safe and stable environment for everyone, while reducing possible risks during night-time hours.
The committee called on all foreign residents in Zuwara to fully cooperate with security forces and relevant authorities. It also urged them to carry valid identification documents, residence papers, and work permits, and to comply with all instructions issued by official bodies.
The municipality stressed that the curfew is precautionary and temporary, and is not directed against any specific nationality or group. It said the decision aims to preserve public security, support stability, and promote coexistence among all communities in the city.
Business owners, factory managers, workshop operators, and shopkeepers employing foreign workers were also asked to inform their staff about the curfew hours. They were urged to make the necessary arrangements to regulate workers’ movements and ensure compliance with the announced measures.
The decision comes amid growing attention to irregular migration in several Libyan cities, alongside security and administrative measures aimed at regulating the status of foreign workers and improving oversight of residents’ movements across the country.
Libya remains a major transit and destination country for migrants and foreign workers, many of whom live in coastal towns and cities. Local authorities have recently intensified efforts to regulate foreign labour, strengthen security controls, and address challenges linked to migration and public order.
