The Egyptian Foreign Minister, Sameh Shoukry, rejected cooperation with Turkey over a political settlement in Libya.

In a statement to the Russian News Agency TASS, Shoukry added that there are, “Parties that support extremism and its gangs, and are working to transfer foreign militants and terrorists from Syria to Libya.”

Shoukry pointed out that Egypt will continue to work on the Libyan issue with countries that have similar views to Cairo. He stressed that Turkey is not among these countries.

The FM called on the international community to work to correct its mistakes in Libya. He noted that the calls for a resolution to the crisis are based on Libyan-led dialogue, and added that Cairo is coordinating over Libya with Russia, the US, Europe, and the Acting Head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), Stephanie Williams.

Shoukry emphasized Egypt’s opposition to any military intervention in Libya. He said that there were no justifications for the attempts of some countries outside the region, to intervene.

According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), 18,000 Syrian mercenaries have been sent into the Libyan battlefields. This includes about 350 children, under the age of 18 years.
