On Saturday, the newly elected Head of Libya’s Presidential Council, Mohamed Al-Mnifi, confirmed that opening the Sirte-Misrata coastal road will be one of the priorities of the next government in order to advance the political process.

He added that the government will support the efforts of the 5 + 5 Joint Military Committee (JMC), amid rising hopes for the near unification of institutions in Libya after years of fighting and conflict in the country.

In a post on his official Facebook page, Al-Mnifi said that the road linking eastern and western Libya will soon be opened in preparation for removing one of the most important obstacles to the path of diplomacy and national reconciliation.

Earlier Saturday, during the meeting with Italian Ambassador to Libya, Giuseppe Buccino, Al-Mnifi said that the next Libyan government will be one government for all Libyans without excluding or marginalizing groups. The members of the House of Representatives (HoR) and the High State Council have a serious desire to achieve stability in the country and extend security within it to reach the elections on time.
