Libyan MP Calls for Postponing Parliamentary Session Until UN Report on Bribery

Libyan Member of Parliament, Ibrahim Al-Dorsi stated that the Parliamentary confidence-granting session should be postponed for another week. This is until the UN’s Panel of Experts issues its report on bribery allegations to the Security Council.

Al-Dorsi explained that there were many calls to investigate the claims that bribes were given to some members of the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum (LPDF), which led to the victory of Mohamed Al-Mnifi and Abdel-Hamid Dbaiba.

The MP stressed that he personally does not contest their victory. He added that with the widespread and repeated talks about the possibility of corruption and bribery, it became necessary to wait for the UN report next week.

He ruled out that these leaks and reports would obstruct the confidence-granting session to the National Unity Government (NUG), by Parliament.

Regarding the possibility of holding a session in the city of Ghadames, he said: “how legitimate is it in the presence of the President, if the session was held and then the United Nations proved the existence of bribes, their position would be catastrophic. I do not think that a session will be held in Ghadames by members of the Libyan Parliament.”
