Moroccan King: We Support The New Libyan Government

On Thursday, Moroccan King Mohammed VI reiterated his support for the new Libyan Government of National Unity (GNU) in its transitional phase.

The King addressed a written message to the Head of the Libyan Presidential Council, Mohamed Al-Mnifi. He affirmed Morocco’s support for all measures and efforts to address Libya’s ongoing challenges. As well as congratulating Al-Mnifi on his election, the King emphasized Morocco’s wish to strengthen relations with Libya in a wide range of fields.

Morocco has been a leading international player contributing to regional stability, and peace in a fragile MENA region. The country was one of the key facilitators of the UN-led process seeking to support Libyans to find a lasting solution to the conflict.

It has also repeatedly condemned foreign military interference in Libya, and hosted a series of meetings between the country’s opposing factions to broker a political solution to the crisis. These rival factions met on numerous occasions in Shkirat, Bouznika and Tangier, as part of the Moroccan efforts to end the war. The most recent of the meetings took place on 22-23 January in Bouznika.
