Libyan Officials Discuss Security Preparations for Upcoming Elections

On Wednesday, Libya’s Interior Minister, Khaled Mazen held a meeting with the Chairman of the High National Elections Commission (HNEC), Emad Al-Din Al-Sayeh, to discuss the final preparations for the upcoming elections, scheduled for December 2021.

During the meeting, the two reviewed the current situation in the country, affirming the importance of security coordination to ensure the elections are held safely. As well as organising a training plan for the security personnel assigned to secure the voting stations.

The talks also touched on the need to create appropriate security conditions for the Commission’s work, in order to complete the constitutional entitlement.

Al-Sayeh highlighted the importance of intensifying efforts among state institutions to overcome all administrative and technical difficulties, including bottlenecks. He confirmed that holding free and fair elections this year is a crucial step for a better future for the country.

The HNEC Head added that they have been working round the clock to adhere to professional standards for the elections.
