On Tuesday, the Speaker of the Libyan Parliament Ageela Saleh warned of the possible chaos of 2011 returning, should the December general elections be delayed.

In press statements to Reuters, Saleh added that he did not want to see further divisions, “If the elections are delayed, we will go back to square one,” warning that a new, parallel government could emerge in the east.

“The President remains the one who decides the matter of foreign forces and mercenaries in the country, and there are difficulties in unifying the army due to outside interference,” he said.

The Speaker explained that the GNU had failed to unify Libya’s institutions and had become a “Tripoli government”, and demanded it carry out its obligations.

He pointed out that the 75 members of the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum (LPDF) did not need to meet, “we have a constitutional declaration. We do not need to go around and waste time. No to bargaining.”

Saleh also claimed that the government’s planned budget of 100 billion dinars ($22.15 billion) was too large, adding that a figure of up to 80 billion dinars would be approved by Parliament.
