On Wednesday, President of the Libyan House of Representatives (HoR) Aqeela Saleh held a meeting with the heads of the permanent parliamentary committees to discuss the latest developments in the country.

Abdullah Bleihaq, the spokesman for the HoR, claimed that Saleh had agreed with the committee heads to launch an initiative aimed at forming a new Presidential Council. This Council would be formed under the auspices of the UN and consist of a chairman and two deputies to administer Libya’s three historical regions of Tripolitania, Barqa and Fezzan. The initiative will include a proposal to form a national government, headed by someone from outside the Presidential Council.

Saleh also called for the speeding up of the procedures being undertaken to repatriate stranded nationals abroad. He stressed the importance of abiding by all preventive measures announced by the Ministry of Health before anyone was allowed into the country.
