On Wednesday, the Libyan National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) reported 14 new positive cases of COVID-19 in Libya, raising the total number of confirmed cases in the country to 196.

In its latest statement, the NCDC stated that it had received a batch of 612 suspected cases, 599 of which had tested negative for the virus.

The NCDC noted that the new positive tally included:

1) 2 new cases in the cities of Tripoli and Gharyan.
2) 1 new case in Zintan who has recently returned from abroad.
3) 11 new cases in Sebha.

The city of Sebha, in southern Libya, has recorded a spike in the number of infections over the past few days.

Libya currently has 139 active cases under medical observation, 52 successful recoveries, and 5 deaths.

Several Arab countries have tightened restrictions on movement, and travel with the aim of curbing the spread of the virus. Trillions of dollars have been pledged in economic stimulus packages around the world to reduce the economic repercussions of the crisis.
