On Monday, Tunisian President Kais Saied stressed that Tunisia would never accept a geographical division of Libya.
He called upon the warring parties to stop the fighting immediately and on their backers to end foreign interference.
Speaking alongside French President Emmanuel Macron in Paris, Saied said that the legitimacy of the Government of National Accord (GNA) was temporary. He added that a new authority chosen and elected by the Libyan people was necessary.
“I’ve met with representatives from the Libyan tribes and they suggested preparing a new constitution in Libya,” he said.
The Tunisian President explained how foreign intervention in Libya was harming Tunisia and has the potential to harm European countries, including France.
Saied underscored the importance of a Libyan-led solution that was free from foreign interference.
The Tunisian President said that the division of Libya represents a danger to the whole region, pointing out that he coordinates on a daily basis with Algeria to find a solution to the crisis.
