On Saturday, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan spoke to Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte over the phone to discuss regional developments, particularly in Libya as well as cooperation in fighting COVID-19.

During the talks, the two leaders agreed to maintain dialogue for a political solution in Libya.

Libya has been torn by a raging civil war, between the Government of National Accord (GNA) based in the capital Tripoli and the Libyan National Army (LNA) and its allies based in the east of the country.

Turkey supports the GNA both politically and militarily, deploying its troops in Libya to train and advise forces loyal to the GNA Head of Presidential Council Fayez al-Sarraj.

Separately, Erdogan held a phone call with Nigerien President Mohamadou Issoufou, the Communications Directorate said in a statement. The two leaders discussed steps to enhance bilateral relations, regional developments as well as cooperation in the fight against coronavirus.
