On Saturday, the Speaker of Libya’s House of Representatives (HoR), Ageela Saleh, called on members of parliament to attend an official session scheduled for Monday at the HoR headquarters in Benghazi.
The session will focus on holding the parliament-designated government, headed by Prime Minister Osama Hammad, accountable for its actions and accomplishments during 2024, as well as examining its strategic plans for 2025.

According to Abdullah Bliheg, spokesperson for the HoR, the government is expected to present a detailed report outlining its achievements over the past year and its roadmap for addressing critical national challenges in the upcoming year. In addition to this key focus, the session will also cover other items on the parliament’s agenda, though their specifics remain undisclosed.

Saleh’s decision to summon the government underscores the parliament’s commitment to oversight and transparency, essential elements for addressing Libya’s political and economic difficulties. This session marks a critical moment in ensuring that the government is held accountable to the Libyan people and to the legislative body that appointed it.

Libya continues to face numerous challenges, including political division, economic instability, and demands for improved public services. The parliament-appointed government has faced growing scrutiny for its performance in addressing these pressing issues. The session in Benghazi is expected to provide a platform for open discussions and evaluations of the government’s successes, shortcomings, and future strategies.

The call for accountability comes amid ongoing political fragmentation in Libya, with rival administrations and competing interests complicating efforts toward unity and progress. By demanding a clear account of the government’s work, Saleh and the parliament aim to reinforce public trust in governance and set a precedent for greater transparency in Libya’s political processes.

As Libya continues to navigate a complex and evolving political environment, this session represents a critical step toward promoting transparency, accountability, and effective governance. By focusing on both past achievements and future plans, the parliament aims to guide the nation toward stability, unity, and development.
