The Ministry of Local Governance, under the government appointed by the Libyan House of Representatives, has issued Resolution No. 56 of 2024, restructuring the Steering Council for Bani Walid Municipality. The reorganization will remain in effect until municipal elections are held.
According to Resolution No. 1 of 2025, the new Steering Council will be chaired by Amer Taher Mohamed Ashour, with membership comprising:

Responsibilities and Legal Framework
The council is authorized to perform the duties and responsibilities assigned to an elected municipal council as per Law No. 59 of 2012 and its executive regulations. Furthermore, the decision ensures that the chairperson and members of the council will receive the same administrative and financial treatment as an elected council.

Bani Walid last held municipal elections on February 25, 2023, witnessing an impressive voter turnout, particularly among both men and women.
Suspension of Al-Harawa Municipal Council
On the same day, the Ministry of Local Governance under the House of Representatives government announced the suspension of the elected municipal council of Al-Harawa, located east of Sirte. The council had previously been sworn in before the Ministry of Local Governance affiliated with the Government of National Unity.
