A popular protest movement in Libya’s capital has called for a mass demonstration in Tripoli’s Martyrs’ Square on Friday, urging citizens to rise against corruption, economic hardship, and political negligence.
The Souq Al-Jumaa Movement issued a powerful appeal to the Libyan public via its official Facebook page, calling on all those suffering under the current living conditions to take part in the rally.
> “To those who can no longer afford medicine… to those whose dreams were crushed by the soaring dollar… to those who lost their livelihood due to inflation… to those who are tired of endless queues, delays, and theft in the name of patriotism—this is your moment, your cause, your voice,” the statement read.
The movement declared the demonstration a united stand against what it described as a “government of corruption and normalization” that has, according to them, stolen people’s rights and destroyed their hopes.
The protest call comes amid mounting public anger in Libya over worsening economic conditions, declining public services, and widespread allegations of political corruption. Citizens have repeatedly voiced frustration over inflation, fuel and electricity shortages, and the devaluation of the Libyan dinar.
Martyrs’ Square in central Tripoli has long been a symbolic venue for popular mobilization, especially during times of national crisis. The planned demonstration reflects a growing trend of public discontent as Libya continues to grapple with political divisions and a stalled transition process.
The organizers have not aligned the protest with any specific political party, instead framing it as a grassroots call for accountability and justice.
