UNSMIL Praises Morocco’s Outreach Efforts

Stephanie Williams, the acting UN envoy to Libya, praised the Kingdom of Morocco’s outreach efforts for the resolution of the Libyan conflict.

This came during her meeting with the Moroccan Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nasser Bourita, and other officials in Rabat.

“UNSMIL is looking forward to getting Morocco’s constructive support within the political framework of the Skhirat Agreement, and the Berlin Conference’ conclusions,” she said.

Oil-rich Libya has been marred in chaos since the ouster and killing of Muammar Gaddafi in 2011. It now has two rival authorities, and a multitude of militias vying for control of the country. The country’s internationally recognised government is based in Tripoli, while Khalifa Haftar, the commander of the Libyan National Army, is supported by a parallel administration based in the east.
