Libyan Red Crescent Secretary-General Marai Al-Darsi received Abdullah bin Suhail Al-Muhaidl, Secretary-General of the Arab Red Crescent and Red Cross Organization, in Benghazi during the organization’s first official visit to Libya.

The meeting took place at the headquarters of the Libyan Red Crescent’s General Secretariat and marked a milestone in humanitarian cooperation between Libya and the wider Arab world.

According to a statement issued by the Libyan Red Crescent, Al-Darsi welcomed his guest with appreciation for what he described as a “historic visit that reflects the depth of humanitarian ties and the strength of cooperation between the two organizations.” He emphasized that the visit represents an opportunity to expand joint action, enhance regional solidarity, and improve emergency and relief coordination across Arab Red Crescent societies.

For his part, Al-Muhaidl praised the work of the Libyan Red Crescent’s volunteers and staff, commending their “commitment, courage, and professionalism” in carrying out humanitarian operations across the country, often under challenging conditions. He highlighted the organization’s vital role in providing assistance to those in need “without distinction or discrimination,” and reaffirmed the Arab Red Crescent’s readiness to strengthen its partnership with Libya through joint projects and capacity-building programs.

During the visit, the Arab Red Crescent delegation toured the historic headquarters of the Libyan Red Crescent in Benghazi, including the main operations room and several key departments. The delegation was briefed on the organization’s emergency response mechanisms, logistical capabilities, and ongoing humanitarian missions in various regions of the country.

The visit comes as part of broader efforts by the Arab Red Crescent and Red Cross Organization to enhance cooperation with member states and reinforce humanitarian coordination in conflict-affected and disaster-prone areas.
