Libya’s House of Representatives is now discussing a draft amendment of the diplomatic and consular work law.

On Tuesday, Speaker of the House of Representatives Aqeela Saleh received a draft amendment of the diplomatic and consular work law by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Dr. Abdul Hadi Al-Hawaij.

The speaker’s media adviser, Hamid Al-Safi, said that Al-Hawij handed Saleh the bill to refer it to Prime Minister Abdullah Al-Thani.

Al-Safi added that Speaker Saleh discussed with Al-Hawij the latest observations on the draft amendment of the law, as it has been in effect for nearly 20 years without any amendments being made to it.

The Libyan foreign minister stressed that the law needs to be developed taking into account the observations made by an expert panel.

This step comes as a prelude to presenting the bill to members of the Libyan parliament for voting.
