The European Commissioner for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Policy (CNEP) Olivér Varhelyi, said that the EU will help Libya to exit its economic crisis once the ceasefire is reached.

“Once a ceasefire is reached in Libya and the political process is resumed, the European Commission will help the country out of the crisis and build an efficient economy and a strong system on the migration front,” Varhelyi said at a hearing in the European Parliament.

Varhelyi affirmed during his speech that the European Union maintains its commitments with the United Nations and that it is committed to the Berlin process.

He explained that once the political process, dialogue and reconciliation are resumed, the EU “will move to help Libya out of the crisis and build a functioning economy.”

It is worthy to mention that the Government of National Accord (GNA) declared the ceasefire on August 21.

The truce was also agreed by the Libyan National Army (LNA), led by Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar.
