The Libyan House of Representatives (HoR) has taken significant steps this week to bolster regional security alliances, advance domestic industrial development, and expand its diplomatic footprint across the Mediterranean and Africa.

Solidarity with Chad Against Terrorism

In a high-level diplomatic call, the Second Deputy Speaker of the House, Misbah Douma Ouhida, reached out to the Chadian Ambassador to Libya, Taher Issa Youssef. Ouhida expressed Libya’s full solidarity with Chad following a recent terrorist attack in the Lake Chad region that resulted in significant casualties.

Conveying the support of Speaker Aguila Saleh, Ouhida condemned the “cowardly” act and emphasized the necessity of regional cooperation. He highlighted the vital role of the Libyan-Chadian Joint Force in securing borders and maintaining stability across the Sahel—a region increasingly pressured by extremist threats.

Laying the Foundation for Industrial Growth

Parallel to security concerns, economic legislative efforts are accelerating in Tripoli. Members of the Economy, Investment, and Energy Committees met with representatives from the Businessmen Council and the High State Council to review the draft law for the “Libya Industrial Development Fund.”

The proposed fund aims to catalyze national economic growth, support localized industrial projects, and foster sustainable development across all Libyan regions. The draft has been officially submitted to the Economy and Investment Committee for final legislative processing.

National Radiological Survey Results

In Benghazi, Deputy Speaker Ouhida reviewed the outcomes of the National Radiological Survey Project with the Industrial Research Center. The briefing covered technical reports on the safety of imported materials and field visits conducted across various cities. This project is a key component of Libya’s strategy to enhance technical oversight and research standards within the industrial sector.

Diplomatic Engagement in Montenegro

On the international stage, Member of Parliament Abu al-Khair al-Shaab represented Libya at the 20th General Assembly of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean (PAM) in Budva, Montenegro. The summit, themed “Parliamentary Diplomacy as a Pillar for Democratic Resilience,” gathered heads of parliaments from across the Mediterranean basin.

During the summit, al-Shaab engaged in bilateral talks with international counterparts, reaffirming Libya’s commitment to Mediterranean security and political dialogue. He also highlighted Benghazi’s upcoming role as host for the Asian-African Parliamentary Conference, chaired by Counselor Aguila Saleh, signaling Libya’s return as a central hub for intercontinental diplomacy.
