The head of the Advisory Committee to Confront the Coronavirus Pandemic of the Government of National Accord (GNA), Khalifa Al-Bakoush, said that Libya has signed an agreement with Kovacs Complex to obtain two million doses of a new COVID-19 vaccine.

Al-Bakoush indicated in television statements that Kovacs Complex is working under the supervision of the World Health Organisation (WHO). The WHO reported that there have been around 82,000 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Libya, including 27,808 cases that are still active. Moreover, about 1,183 Libyans have died due to the disease.

In October, the Central Bank of Libya (CBL) said it had allocated 969 million Libyan Dinars (LYD) to the GNA to combat the virus. The CBL data indicated that the GNA’s Health Ministry received 572 million LYD, while 151 million LYD were allocated to the medical supply apparatus.

Libyan authorities have taken a series of measures against the pandemic since the first case was reported in March. These measures include closing the country’s borders, shutting down schools and mosques, banning public gatherings, and imposing a curfew.
