The Speaker of the Libyan Parliament, Ageela Saleh attended a meeting with the President of the French Senate, Gérard Larcher in Paris. The two discussed ways of enhancing parliamentary cooperation between the two countries.

During the talks, Saleh and Larcher confirmed that France and Libya enjoyed very close bilateral relations, stressing the importance of developing joint cooperation ties at all levels.

Earlier today, Saleh kicked off his two-day official visit to France, for talks with a number of senior French officials over the latest regional developments.

The speaker’s media advisor, Abdel-Hamid Al-Safi said that Saleh is accompanied by a delegation including, head of the Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee, Youssef Al-Agouri, head of the Legislative Committee, Ramadan Chambash, and Member of Parliament Saeed Amgheib.

Libya has been divided between two authorities for the past six years. Khalifa Haftar’s Libyan National Army (LNA) controls the east, and is allied to the Tobruk-based Libyan Parliament. Meanwhile, the Government of National Accord (GNA) is based in Tripoli, and is supported by a number of foreign powers.
