Libya’s NCDC Warns of Worsening COVID-19 Situation

On Thursday, Head of the National Center for Disease Control (NCDC), Dr. Badr Al-Din Al-Najjar stated that the epidemiological situation in Libya is worsening due to COVID-19, confirming that the number of infections was increasing.

In a statement, Al-Najjar said that the daily tally of cases issued by the NCDC is not accurate, and does not represent the actual number of patients in the country.

Al-Najjar warned that the new mutations of the virus have aggravated the situation around the world, with an increase in deaths due to insufficient medical capacity to treat all patients. He explained that the rise in cases has led to severe overcrowding in Libya’s isolation centers.

The NCDC head has recently revealed that all procedures have been completed to reserve 2.8 million doses of a COVID-19 vaccine, enough to vaccinate 1.4 million people in Libya.

Al-Najjar stated that the vaccines will be from the ‘Kovacs group’, and supervised by the World Health Organization (WHO). He added that there are no indications of the emergence of the mutated virus in Libya.

He added that the vaccines will arrive in Libya by May, pointing out that the Pfizer vaccine was excluded because it needed a temperature of 70 degrees below zero, which is unattainable in Libya.
