The newly elected Prime Minister, Abdel-Hamid Dbaiba, expressed his aspiration to develop relations with Italy, which shares many challenges with Libya, most notably managing the migration file.

“We congratulate Mr. Mario Draghi for assuming the position of Prime Minister of Italy, and we wish him success in his mission,” Dbaiba said in a tweet on Saturday.

He added that, “we look forward to developing our distinguished relationship with neighbouring Italy, with whom we share many challenges, especially aspects related to migration management and its regulation, and with it we have many opportunities for economic integration.”

Notably, on Saturday Dbaiba met with the Head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), Ján Kubiš. Encouraged by Dbeibah’s intention to form a representative and inclusive government, Kubiš commended him on his commitment to allocate 30% of cabinet seats to women, including youth.
