Di Maio Hails Political Developments in Libya

On Monday, Italian Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio briefed his European counterparts on his visit to Libya, as he participated in the informal meeting of the EU’s Foreign Affairs Council by video conference.

The Italian FM focused on the important opportunities that the Government of National Unity (GNU) could provide, to ensure the success of the stabilization process in Libya.

Earlier, Di Maio and Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi visited Tripoli, meeting with Libyan Prime Minister Abdel-Hamid Dbaiba. The two PM’s discussed a number of issues, most notably joint cooperation on illegal immigration, and the combatting of organized crime and terrorism.

ADi Maio and Draghi also discussed with Head of the Libyan Presidential Council, Mohamed Al-Mnifi ways to reactivate the Libyan-Italian Friendship Treaty of 2008.
