Libyan National Security Adviser, Ibrahim Bushnaf met with MP, Mohamed Al-Raid to discuss Libya’s food security, and mechanisms to address the sudden surge in prices.
Al-Raid, is the Chairman of the Libyan General Federation of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, and Agriculture in Libya. They discussed the global and local crises that led to this sudden surge in food prices.
The meeting touched on the global and local crises that led to this sudden surge in food prices. As well as the mechanisms taken by the chamber to alleviate this issue. This is to ensure minimum living requirements, and food baskets for citizens across the country.
Bushnaf called for expediting the development of solutions to reduce the burden on Libyan citizens. He pointed out that “food and drug security are the basis of national security in any country, especially Libya, which has been suffering from various issues for years.”
Last month, Bushnaf met with the German Ambassador to Libya, Michael Unmacht. They reviewed the latest developments in the country’s political situation.
They discussed the challenges facing Libya, and the mechanisms to resolve them. They also spoke about enhancing bilateral relations, especially with regards to national security issues.
The two sides focused on the possibility of consensus between rival Libyan parties, given the current deadlock surrounding the political scene. As well as moving towards holding Presidential and Parliamentary elections soon.
The officials discussed ways to solve the Libyan crisis, and Germany’s contribution to supporting a solution.
Recently, The Director of the Commercial Department of the Libyan Ministry of Economy, explained that there is a global rise in prices for basic commodities. He added that some countries have banned the export of cooking oils, in favour of local consumption. In press statements, the official said that Libya is using Tunisia and Turkey to cover its cooking oil deficit. He added that efforts are ongoing for alternative sources, in order to cover this deficit.
