The eastern-based Interim Government, headed by Prime Minister Abdullah al-Thani, mourned in an official statement issued this Saturday, the head of the Municipal Council of Kabaw, Sheikh Abdullah Makhlouf, who has been assassinated by unknown gunmen.

According to the statement, Makhlouf was killed because he was supporting the Libyan National Army (LNA), in addition to his strong positions against Turkey sending Syrian mercenaries to Libya.

The statement emphasized that Makhlouf was supporting Libyan sovereignty and always defended the LNA, which is “fighting a major battle against terrorism to liberate Libya”.
