The Tunisian Consulate in Tripoli said that a plane had taken off on Friday evening from Misrata International Airport to Tunis Carthage International Airport with 63 Tunisian nationals aboard.

The Tunisian nationals had been stranded in Libya following the closure of borders between the two countries to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

In a statement, the Tunisian Consulate said that it started evacuating its nationals last month.

Tunisian authorities have stated that repatriated citizens would undergo strict security and health measures before being allowed to move inside the country.

The Libyan Consul General in Tunisia, Fadel Al-Qaryo, had previously said that the evacuation of Tunisians was made possible thanks to the assistance of the Libyan Red Crescent.

Al-Qaryo had stated that measures were being taken in coordination with Tunisian authorities to help Libyan nationals stranded in Tunisia due to the COVID-19 crisis.
