The Minister of Economy and Trade of the outgoing Government of National Unity (GNU) in Libya, Mohamed Al-Hwaij, expressed readiness to facilitate Bangladeshi companies’ entry into the Libyan market, aiming to foster partnerships and appoint local agents, thus marking a new chapter in Libya-Bangladesh economic relations.

During a meeting at the ministry’s headquarters, Al-Hwaij and the Ambassador of Bangladesh to Libya, Abul Hasnat Mohammad Bashar, discussed strengthening cooperation in trade, investment, digital economy, and information technology.

Al-Hwaij extended an invitation to his Bangladeshi counterpart to visit Libya with an economic and investment delegation, coinciding with the 50th edition of the Tripoli International Fair. This visit aims to engage in event activities, hold talks with government institutions, and conduct bilateral meetings between companies from both countries, facilitating exchange of experiences and expertise.

Emphasizing the importance of establishing a Joint Business Council, Al-Hwaij proposed enhancing economic relations and cooperation in trade and investment through dialogue and collaboration between Libyan and Bangladeshi business communities, unlocking new opportunities for economic growth.

The Bangladeshi Ambassador expressed his country’s desire to develop bilateral relations and enhance economic and trade cooperation with Libya, signaling a significant step towards fostering a stronger economic relationship between the two nations, potentially benefiting both in trade and investment.

The meeting underscores the mutual interest of Libya and Bangladesh in expanding economic cooperation, offering opportunities to diversify their economies and explore new markets, which could contribute to achieving their respective economic goals.
