On Thursday Foreign Minister Abdulhadi al-Hwaij of Libya’s eastern-based Interim Government called upon Russian businessmen to invest in Libya.

In a meeting with the head of the Russian Centre for International Partnership and Commercial Cooperation, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Benghazi, FM el-Hwaij encouraged Russian businessmen to invest in areas under the authority of the eastern-based Libyan government.

The Russian delegation included a number of Russian business personalities, including a member of the Oversight Committee at the Center for International Partnership and Russian Trade Cooperation.

This visit comes as part of efforts aimed at boosting economic relations between the two countries and in response to calls made by FM al-Hwaij during his previous visits to Moscow.

The Libyan Foreign Minister told investors that the environment is now suitable for investment and tourism and that areas under the control of the LNA are enjoying a period of stability and security that has not been present since 2011.
