On Saturday, the Libyan Ministry of Foreign Affairs, of the interim Government of National Unity (GNU) held a high-level meeting with officials from the US Embassy to discuss streamlining visa procedures and strengthening consular cooperation.

The meeting focused on improving consular services for citizens of both nations and enhancing collaboration in humanitarian affairs.

The discussions were led by Abubaker Ahmed Bin Saud, Director of the Americas Department at Libya’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Nagat Shaif, Director of the Consular Affairs Department.

Representing the US was Bobby Neal, Chief of the Consular Section at the US Embassy to Libya.

Both parties emphasized the importance of fostering direct communication to bolster bilateral relations and advance shared interests.

They agreed on the need for efficient consular processes, improved access to services, and expanded humanitarian cooperation.

The dialogue highlighted the mutual commitment to maintaining diplomatic channels that strengthen ties between the Libyan and American people.

Libya’s engagement with the United States reflects its broader efforts to rebuild international partnerships amid years of political instability.

The US has been a key ally in supporting Libya’s recovery, with a focus on political reconciliation, counter-terrorism, and economic stabilization.
