Armed clashes erupted near Libya’s Interior Ministry headquarters on Tripoli’s Airport Road, according to eyewitnesses, raising fresh security concerns in the Libyan capital.
Witnesses said the fighting broke out inside the Anti-Narcotics Agency headquarters located close to the Interior Ministry complex, causing tension and disruption in the surrounding area.
The incident adds to a series of recurring security confrontations in Tripoli, where clashes occasionally erupt between rival armed groups and security factions competing for influence and control over state institutions.
Residents expressed concern over the renewed instability, particularly as the Airport Road is considered one of the capital’s most important and heavily used routes. The area has witnessed intermittent security incidents in recent years, often affecting traffic movement and daily life.
No official statement on casualties or the circumstances surrounding the clashes had been issued at the time of publication.
The latest unrest comes amid ongoing efforts by Libyan authorities and international actors to stabilise Tripoli and advance broader security arrangements aimed at reducing the influence of armed groups operating in the capital.
