On Monday, the new Reform and Rehabilitation Institution announced the release of 20 detainees from Al-Jadida Prison in Tripoli.

The decision comes amid efforts to reduce the number of prisoners to prevent the spread of the virus in the country, which is transmitted through close contact.

The Institution clarified in a statement that the decision was based on orders by the office of the Public Prosecutor.

Al-Jadida prison is one of the largest prisons in Tripoli, with a considerable number of political and religious detainees. It should be noted that Libya has no confirmed cases of the virus.
