Former French Official Condemns Turkey’s Role in Libya

Former French intelligence official, Jean Bernard Pinatel, said that the main cause of chaos in Libya is the Turkish backed militias.

Pinatel explained that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has exacerbated hostilities with France for several reasons. “Erdogan violates international law and does not respect the decisions of the United Nations, and the Treaty of Lausanne.”

He added that Turkey had agreed on the Treaty of Lausanne after World War I on the territorial losses of Cyprus, Dodecanese, Syria, Palestine, Jordan, Iraq, and the Arabian Peninsula.

Pinatel stressed that President Erdogan also violates international maritime law by not respecting the exclusive economic zones resulting from this treaty. He added that Ankara does not respect the UN arms embargo on Libya, and has transferred extremist fighters from Syria to fight in the conflict

As a result, this threatens the stability of the entire French-speaking Sahel region, where 93 million Africans live, Pinatel said.
