The Russian Foreign Minister, Sergey Lavrov, confirmed that the absence of a UN envoy to Libya is an unacceptable situation. He stated that this position must be filled in order to reach a comprehensive political settlement.

Lavrov’s statement came during a joint press conference held Tuesday in the Russian city of Sochi with his Turkish counterpart, Mevlut Cavusoglu.

Lavrov stressed the need to make every effort available to support the 5+5 Joint Military Commission (JMC) as well as pushing the political process forward to rebuild the war-torn country.

He added that Russia is actively working to ensure coordination with the United Nations, as it has maintained contact with all Libyan parties without exception.

The Russian FM announced that Moscow and Ankara are ready to continue joint work in normalizing the situation in Libya. This is through comprehensive dialogue in which all the main political forces and representatives throughout the country participate.
