Libya Discusses Unification of Naval Forces

On Saturday, the Libyan Chiefs of Staff of the Libyan Naval Forces held face-to-face meetings in the city of Benghazi.

The meeting was attended by the Chief of Staff of the Naval Forces in Tripoli and his accompanying delegation, who visited the headquarters of the Naval Staff in Benghazi, as part of efforts to unify the military institution.

The official Facebook page of the Chief of Staff of the Naval Forces in Benghazi stated that the meetings came in implementation of the instructions of the Commander-in-Chief of the Libyan National Army (LNA), Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar.

It added that the meeting took place in accordance with the findings of the Chiefs of the General Staff, the Chiefs of the Special Staff, the bodies and departments in the previous face-to-face meetings. They were attended by the Chief of Staff of the Naval Forces and a number of commanders of the naval divisions.

The meetings are being held in continuation of the efforts to unify the military institution as well as to develop administrative and procedural plans to implement this.

The Chiefs of Staff indicated that the delegation visited, on a recreational trip, to the Jabal al Akhdar region, where the landscapes and tourism in both Sousse and Shahat, reflects the region’s stunning natural landscapes and the security and safety it enjoys, as well as the protection of the Libyan National Army (LNA).

On April 13th, the Chief of the General Staff of the Government of National Unity (GNU), Lieutenant General Mohamed Al-Haddad, arrived in the city of Benghazi, to complete the discussions on unifying the military institution.

The eastern-based Libyan National Army’s (LNA) Chief of Staff, General Abdel-Raziq Al-Nathouri, and the western region’s Chief of Staff, General Mohamed Al-Haddad had previously met in the capital, Tripoli, twice during the last period.

They also participated in the meetings of the 5 + 5 Joint Military Committee (JMC) in the capital, Tripoli and Sirte, as well as in Cairo and Tunis.
